Okay Queen, let me tell you something. I used to be the girl that was the most quiet person in the room. I used to be really, really shy. I used to be the one that hid and never talked to people. Whenever I was in a group setting, I never wanted to talk to people, okay? I remember, like, in college we would have, like, group, you know, sessions—I would be quiet, I wouldn’t say nothing because I was extremely shy, okay? I was not confident with myself, and it was really hard. I always felt like I wasn’t good enough. I always wanted to shrink, and I didn’t feel like I was good enough.

But I knew that I wanted to build a brand. I knew that I wanted to have my own business. I knew that I wanted to be a model. I knew that I wanted to be an influencer. I knew that I wanted to be a content creator. I knew that I needed to put myself out there.

Fast forward to today, I have been able to be featured in magazines, I’ve been able to host my own events, okay? Where I’m speaking in front of hundreds of people. I have been able to really, really push myself. I’ve been able to start my own business, start modeling, and do all these things that I never really thought that I could do.

And none of that happened just naturally. Honestly, I don’t feel like it’s something that I had naturally. It’s something that I had to really build, you know? I had to really push past my fears of being a little bit more insecure and start being a little bit more confident and showing up.

This happened because I learned exact steps on how to be more confident on camera—specifically because, as someone who wants to be able to have your business and just put themselves out there, you need to be comfortable in front of the camera, babe. You have to!

The first thing is that you want to shift your mindset, okay? And understand that confidence is a skill. It’s not something that you are born with—it’s a skill that you need to build. Like when you go to the gym, right? You don’t go to the gym one day and just be like, "Okay, boom, I’m going to have a six-pack." You have to go over and over and over and over for that to happen.

It’s the same thing with being comfortable in front of the camera. Like, for you to stop being uncomfortable in front of the camera and start talking to the camera like I’m doing right now, you have to first understand that it’s just a skill that you need to build. It’s not something that a lot of people are born with. Some people are, but a lot of people are not born with doing this, okay? And it can feel so awkward doing it at first, but you just need to start shifting your mind and understand that this is just a skill—another skill that you need to build to get to another level of yourself.

And the way you talk to yourself really matters. Like, every time that you have those negative thoughts about how you feel in front of the camera, just understand that—talk to yourself in the opposite of the negative that you are telling yourself. Just start shifting your mindset about that and start talking to yourself in a positive way.

Next is to create a pre-filming ritual. This is what I do—I just did my ritual right now, the one that I do every time that I’m about to film, and this is something that really, really helped me.

One of the biggest reasons that people are so awkward in front of the camera is because they go in cold. You go in, and you don’t really warm up a little bit and prepare yourself. You wouldn’t jump into a workout without actually doing a warm-up, right? It’s the same—you need to warm yourself up and get yourself mentally ready and get your body ready to be in front of the camera.

It’s the same thing, especially for people that are shy and a little bit awkward in front of the camera—you need to warm yourself up!

The way I warm myself up is: I play music—I was just playing Afrobeats music, dancing to it in my outfit, and really, really making myself feel good and getting prepared to start my videos for the day. So, I play music, I dance, just to make myself feel really good and warm up. Maybe for you, you want to move around, take deep breaths, you know? And remind yourself that you belong here—like, this is what you're supposed to do, this is what you’re meant to do.

This is really going to help you get ready to be in front of the camera and not think that it’s awkward. Sometimes, I even make myself a drink—a coffee, tea, or even an alcoholic drink—just to get myself a little bit more loose, a little bit more myself. Because sometimes, um, these are things that helped me.

Now, I don’t really have to do all of that, but I’m just telling you the things that really helped me when I first started. But yeah, you can get yourself a little drink so that you can be a little bit, you know, looser—a little bit less awkward on camera.

Oh my God, this one is probably the most important one—talk to one person instead of a crowd. Stop thinking that you are talking to 50,000 people that are going to watch your video. Think of one person!

Me, I always do my videos like I’m talking to one person—like there’s literally just one person watching my video. It’s kind of like I’m talking to a client, I’m talking to my best friend, I’m talking to a friend that needs advice from me. And that makes it so much easier for me to show up like myself.

Because I’m just coming here and talking to my friend, you know? Telling her how she can get better in front of the camera. Instead of thinking that I need to be talking to everybody, right? No. If you focus on just talking to one person—your dream client—maybe, like, okay, maybe I’m just talking to one person, this is a one-on-one.

One thing that can really help you is to even put a picture of your dream client, or your friend, or just someone in front of you, just so you feel more confident—like, you feel more confident that, okay, I’m only talking to one person.

Because what happens is that whenever the camera is on, you get all scared because you start thinking that so many people are watching. No, you are talking to one person.

I personally am just talking to one person right now.
